Another Big Day at FiLife

Yesterday was a big day for FiLife. We launched a version of our site that better reflects the vision we’ve had for some time. Now we’re close to realizing that full vision. FiLife has an updated homepage, a community landing page, 39 new product guides, better navigation, and a new tool: the credit card picker.

More on Our Credit Card Tool
The idea behind the credit card picker is pretty simple: We’re trying to help you find the card that fits you best. How do we do this? First, we collect the most important data from major credit cards. Then we ask you to tell us how much credit card debt you carry, how much you spend monthly, and how long you want to carry the card. Finally we ask you to tell us what kind of card you want (a rewards card, a student card, etc.) Our tool then searches through our directory of hundreds of credit cards, calculates how much these cards will either make you or cost you, and then serves you up the best ones. Each card is stamped with a dollar value that represents the card’s value or cost to you. You can read more about these calculations here. Bottom line: the credit card picker answers the question – “What credit card is right for you?”

More to Come
Over the next couple of months, FiLife will launch more pickers in the CD, savings account, checking account, mortgage, and home equity categories. In each case, we’ll have a comprehensive directory for each product, and we’ll calculate each product’s value in your terms. The goal is to make product selection really easy – and more fun and effective than how products are chosen today.

We appreciate any and all feedback – so let us know what you think.

We’re Just Getting Started . . .

Thanks for coming to check us out.

For the past four months we have been feverishly working to develop the site you see today. All in all, we think our Stacker, rate-and-review directory and community of financial gurus are, in technical terms, totally awesome.

But as you might expect, the site today is just the beginning. What we really want to do is create an unprecedented experience around the products and services you use to help earn, spend, and manage your money. Already, we’re working on making the rate-and-review directory even more comprehensive. More than that, though, our crew is hard at work building a tool that will sit atop the listings and allow users to see how companies and products truly stack up to one another.

We’re also adding more stackers. We have eight now, but we will add to that number soon. For starters, we’re adding a retirement stacker — you’ll be able to see how you’re faring in the retirement savings department compared to the whole nation, or just in your age range.

All this is to serve one simple goal: to help you make smarter financial decisions. We hope we do that. Thanks for visiting the site; if you have any questions or comments, please send them our way.
